
President’s Designee
Luis De Paz Fernandez was born in Mexico City and moved to South San Francisco at age 11. He proudly supported his family while becoming the first to earn a college degree, achieving a Bachelor of Arts in Latina/Latino Studies and a minor in International Relations from San Francisco State University in 2015.
Upon graduation, Luis was selected to participate in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Public Policy Fellowship in Washington, D.C., where he worked in the office of Congressman Raul Grijalva (AZ 07). Following his CHCI fellowship, Luis returned to San Francisco State University to begin his professional journey with the university. During his time at SF State, he has taken on various roles across the university, including in outreach, admissions, the Dream Resource Center, and the Office of the President. In 2020, he furthered his education by earning a Master of Public Administration from San Francisco State University. Currently, Luis serves as the Interim Chief of Staff for President Lynn Mahoney.
