Janey Q. Wang is an Associate Professor of Public Administration. Dr. Wang holds a Ph.D. in Public Affairs from the Indiana University. She joined the faculty at San Francisco State University in 2009 and served as the Director/Coordinator of the MPA program from 2019 to 2022. Dr. Wang’s research focuses on local fiscal policy, fiscal federalism, fiscal health, debt management, and public and nonprofit finance. She has published in various public and nonprofit administration journals including Nonprofit & Voluntary Sector Quarterly, Municipal Finance Journal, Journal of Public Budgeting, Accounting, & Financial Management, Journal of Public Affairs Education, Municipal Finance Journal, and Journal of the Transportation Research Board. She has worked on funded projects supported by the California Debt and Investment Advisory Commission, Kresge Foundation Advancing Knowledge Scholars Program, and the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy.
Dr. Wang has taught a variety of core curriculum and elective courses in the MPA program, including Resource Management, Financial Management, Policy Analysis, Research Method and Economics Perspective. She is passionate about developing new courses and bringing new perspectives to her students. In addition, she has served on MPA degree thesis committees and delivered independent study courses to MPA students. Dr. Wang is deeply dedicated to both the university and the broader community. She serves on the Board of SF State’s University Corporation, the Academic Senate, and the BART Measure RR Bond Oversight Committee.
