Dr. Yvonne Bui is a Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Special Education at San Francisco State University. She received her Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Kansas.  She has worked with students with disabilities as a paraprofessional, general education, and special education teacher.  She received the Golden Torch Award, Outstanding Special Education Teacher of the Year as an SFSU Alumni.

Dr. Bui has been the project director for several federal grants to prepare new special education teachers and leaders.  She has taught a variety of courses in special education law, assessment, curriculum and instruction, research methods, grant writing, and statistics.

Dr. Bui is active in her scholarship and presents at national/international conferences and publishes in peer-reviewed journals. She is the author of How to Write a Master’s Thesis (SAGE) and co-editor of Exceptional Children in Today’s Schools: What Teachers Need to Know (PRO-ED).  She has traveled extensively overseas as a volunteer to prepare special education teachers abroad.

Dr. Bui serves on the Board of Directors for the Council of Exceptional Children and the Advisory Committee on Exceptional Children and Youth, Office of Overseas Schools, U.S. Department of State.  She is the Chair of the Budget Advisory Council at SF State.
